Student Discipler/Outreach Worker-Taiwan

Working with college students and young people in Taiwan is a strategic way to reach a very resistant people—Taiwan’s working class. College students tend to be more open to the gospel as they are away from their families and communities where idol and ancestor worship are expected.

The Student Discipler will serve at an outreach center/coffee shop dedicated to reaching, discipling and training students and preparing them to be instruments of change in their communities. Many of the students come from rural areas. The coffee shop provides a convenient, welcoming place for students to gather.

We are looking for individuals to join our holistic church planting team and be involved in relationship building and sharing their life and love of Jesus with these students through various activities at the outreach center— including Bible studies, English conversation, playing games, music, and sports.

This position requires a vibrant and dedicated spiritual life characterized by consistent practice of spiritual disciplines. The Student Discipler will need to have a solid understanding of the Scriptures and be able to teach the Bible faithfully and accurately in the language of the people they serve.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with evangelism and discipleship
  • Willingness to commit at least 5 years to the project
  • A solid commitment to the spiritual disciplines (i.e., Bible reading, prayer, etc.)
  • Ability to learn the local language (Mandarin Chinese)

The Student Discipler will collaborate with a team to evangelize and disciple the people and prepare local servant-leaders to become co-workers in leading the current ministry of training students. They will:

  • Live among the unreached people group, learning their language and culture before beginning formal ministry
  • Teach the Bible in formal and informal settings
  • Evangelize and disciple the people
  • Identify and equip native leaders to evangelize their own people, who are primarily an unreached people group
  • Encourage and come alongside local church leaders to disciple believers in a life-on-life manner
  • Develop current and future church leaders with Biblical and practical leadership skills
