Islam is growing in Latin America. Islamic leaders in the Middle East have recognized and promoted this movement, and according to experts, there is a clear agenda for continued growth. The highest percentage of growth is among the younger generation of Paraguayans as seekers attend local Mosques and are actively pursued by Imams.

Ciudad del Este, located in southeast Paraguay along the Parana River, is the location of one of our newest expansion ministries. In May 2023, the ministry was officially launched with our first workers,  and team leader. In addition, we have been building a network of Spanish leaders that have expressed interest in reaching their Muslim neighbors. Coming alongside these national believers will provide World Team workers introductions into the community and the strategies being used to reach Muslims.

Ciudad del Este is a multicultural and diverse city. It is home to a large Asian-born population, specifically of Taiwanese, Korean, Lebanese, and Iranian origin—evident in the city’s mosques and pagodas. There are 35,000 Muslims in Ciudad del Este, with numbers growing through immigration and conversion from Christianity to Islam. Less than 1% of the Muslim population is evangelical.

Important to the spread of the gospel is that Ciudad del Este is the largest city within what is known as the Triple Frontier region. With the Friendship Bridge leading into Brazil and Argentina just to the south, there is access to tens of thousands of Muslims in neighboring cities. Ciudad del Este is a pivotal point in establishing and expanding Muslim ministry in Latin America.

Our hope is to see multiplying churches planted as Muslims come to faith in Christ. As believers are discipled, they will begin to share the gospel in neighboring Muslim communities. We pray for a church-planting movement that produces unity among believers, godly compassion and kindness to others, disciples equipped to make disciples, and believers who obediently follow God as the Spirit works in their hearts.
