Finding Comfort and Inspiration from God’s Word
One of World Team’s guiding principles is being Gospel-centered, and our workers take that to heart in their lives as well as in their ministry to others. We have asked many of them what Bible verses or passages have stood out to them in their journey, and here are some of their answers.
For Bill, who served in the Dominican Republic with his wife, Priscilla, for many years, Philippians 1:6 has been a source of comfort in his missions journey: For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
“I have seen that take place over again in my life,” says Bill. “The things that I have begun, God has been faithful, and He’s the one that does all the perfecting. I don’t have to worry about that. I just have to be faithful.”
Priscilla quoted Ephesians 3:20, which refers to God as “Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.”
“The verse has come back to us many times when we’ve been surprised at not just His faithfulness, but above and beyond what we could ask or think,” she shares. “You realize you pray for something that is really small in comparison with what God wants to do.”
“Sometimes He has surprised us with those big things that He’s done above and beyond.”
Chelsea, who has been serving in Cambodia, referenced Colossians 1:15-17:
15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
“Just that promise of ‘all things hold together.’ I can feel like so many aspects of my life are about to fly out of the solar system, and I can’t hold it all together. I’m so glad that He does.”
“He is the reason that I am in Cambodia, He is the reason that I’m alive, and He’s able to hold all these different aspects of my life and my community together.”
