Philippines-Church Planter / College Minister

The Church Planter / College Minister will serve in Naga City by assisting with the establishment of a new, healthy church, and will identify, equip, and launch mature, discipled believers to lead. This role will also engage the next generation by evangelizing and discipling unreached college students through various outreach programs and will connect them to this self-sustaining and reproducing church.

As the Church Planter / College Minister helps launch a new church plant, they will lead Bible studies, disciple new Christians, and develop church leaders. They will also organize and run workshops for college students in order to build contacts for outreach evangelism. They will gather these contacts into evangelistic Bible studies and invite them to attend the new church plant.

The ideal candidate will need to have wisdom, spiritual maturity, flexibility, resilience, interest in other cultures and peoples, and a genuine love for the lost. The ministry context involves subtle but persistent persecution of Christians and pervasive spiritual warfare. World Team values high immersion into the local culture and context, so this role must be willing to work hard to learn the local language and to assimilate into the community.

The Church Planter / College Minister role would have:

  • Christian Maturity: Christ-like character that serves with a humble spirit and a listening heart, exhibits leadership competency, and engages in spiritual disciplines daily
  • Evangelism and Discipleship: Effectively share the gospel with relational evangelism and disciple new believers
  • Communication Skills: Encourage and teach mature believers to follow Christ in servant-leadership roles
  • Knowledge and Discernment: Biblical and theological training (formal or informal) with good understanding of the scripture, the ability to lead Bible studies, as well as recognize and deal with problematic theology (a persistent problem)
  • Experience: Ministering to college students or youth with 1-2 years in a volunteer or vocational capacity, ability to lead Bible studies
  • Commitment: Expectation is for 1 to 4+ years (mid to long range)
  • Willingness to learn another language (Tagalog/Bicol)

The Church Planter / College Minister will work on a team to provide leadership, assistance, and training in church planting and college ministry. They will:

  • Plan, develop, and lead Bible studies for small groups
  • Prepare and preach sermons on an occasional basis
  • Lead evangelistic events from planning to execution
  • Assist in the leadership and organization of church plants
  • Assist in the development of new local church and ministry leaders
  • Study (at a local language school in the Philippines) and become fluent in Tagalog/Bicol to faithfully communicate, minister, teach, and preach in the native language
  • Participate in field-level activities, including the annual conference, regular prayer meetings, and other tasks as needed
  • Participate in quarterly reviews that assist and guide the missionary in reaching ministry and personal goals
  • Raise and manage their own support funds, including submitting expense reports and general budgeting of personal/support resources in appropriate ways
